Why is HGCS exploring an expansion to the Mallard Creek campus?

As HGCS continues to grow, we are seeking thoughtful, mission-aligned opportunities to serve more families while maintaining strong academics, small class sizes, and a Christ-centered environment. Mallard Creek provides the space and setting to launch this next phase of growth in alignment with our mission and values.

When would the Mallard Creek campus open?

If approved, the Mallard Creek campus would open in Fall 2026. Families will receive additional details about orientation and next steps as plans are finalized.

Where will the program be located?

The program would be housed at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church – Mallard Creek Campus, using established classrooms within the quad and gym facilities.

Which grade levels will be offered? The program would begin with Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten, which would be determined by enrollment. Long-term plans include growing one grade level at a time, eventually serving students through elementary grades as enrollment and facilities allow. Once students reach middle school, they will be integrated into the Harris Campus classrooms.
What type of curriculum will be used? The Mallard Creek campus would launch with classical Christian elements integrated into the HGCS academic program, emphasizing rich language, literature, memorization, and habits of clear thinking, all grounded in a biblical worldview. Our goal is to continue developing these classical distinctives with the intention of pursuing formal classical certification.
What does classical learning look like in TK and Kindergarten? In the early years, students will experience key elements of classical education designed for young learners, including:

• Great stories, poems, and Scripture
• Memorization and recitation
• Strong phonics and early handwriting
• Hands-on activities and simple nature studies
• Daily practice of habits like attentiveness, kindness, and responsibility

These practices support joyful learning while building strong academic and biblical foundations.
Is the program currently classically certified? At launch, the program will not yet be formally classically certified. However, HGCS is intentionally building the program using classical methods and curriculum with the goal of pursuing classical certification as the program grows and develops.
How does this fit with the Harris campus? Both campuses share the same mission, biblical foundation, and commitment to academic excellence. Harris continues with the current instructional model, while Mallard Creek introduces classical elements in the early grades, aiming to develop a fully classically certified program in the long term. Families will have two mission-aligned educational pathways within HGCS.
 

How do families apply? Families who are interested should submit an application. Due to the expected limited availability, applications submitted before February 18 will be considered first for enrollment.
Can students transfer between campuses? Transfers may be possible depending on grade-level availability and space. Families should contact the admissions office to discuss individual situations.
Will the Opportunity Scholarship be accepted? Yes. HGCS–Mallard Creek will participate in the North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship Program, consistent with HGCS policies.

Who will teach at the Mallard Creek campus? Teachers will be qualified Christian educators who are trained in classical instructional practices and committed to the mission and statement of faith of HGCS. Some staff may transition from the Harris campus, and additional teachers will be hired as needed. Our desire is to eventually have all teachers be classically certified.
What will the classroom environment be like? Families can expect:

• Small class sizes
• Warm, nurturing classrooms that value childhood
• Strong communication with parents
• Teachers who shepherd both hearts and minds
• A joyful learning environment that encourages curiosity and a love of learning

Where will students eat lunch? During the first year:

• Students will bring lunch from home
• Lunch will be eaten in classrooms
• When weather permits, students may eat outdoors at the pavilion

Lunch services will not be available during the first year.
Where will PE and indoor recess take place? Physical education and indoor recess will take place in the renovated gym behind the quad classroom area. Outdoor recess will take place in established outdoor play areas, with renovations planned for late spring to add additional outdoor enhancements.
How will arrival, dismissal, and safety work? HGCS–Mallard Creek will follow the same safety standards and procedures as the Harris campus. Arrival, dismissal, traffic flow, and safety protocols will be shared with families prior to opening.
 

Will tuition be different at the Mallard Creek campus? No. Tuition and fees will be the same as the Harris campus.
How will families receive updates? Families will receive communication through established HGCS platforms, including email, FACTS Family Portal, and school announcements. Campus-specific updates will be clearly identified.
