Middle School

Mr. Dan DeZordo

Middle School Dean of Students

Welcome to the Middle

At Hickory Grove, we understand middle school is a time of transition. Students enter 6th grade as kids but enter high school as young adults. We understand the importance of this transformational movement and aim to lay a solid foundation for the students to build their adult lives.

To achieve this objective, we take a two-pronged approach to the daily life
of middle school students. First, we help kids to discover their interests and talents. While many students think they have this figured out, they have
yet to be exposed to many experiences. Through our elective offerings and daily flex period, students will be afforded the opportunity to expand their understanding of what they like to do and where their talents lie.

Once students discover this, our next mission is to sanctify their interests and talents. This concept comes directly from Jesus' interaction with his disciples. Peter, for example, was already a strong leader who ran his family's fishing enterprise. Jesus did not turn Peter into a leader; he sanctified Peter's ability to lead. We want to show students that once they discover their interests and strengths, the next question is, "How can I use this to glorify God?"

In addition, our well-trained and Christ-centered middle school staff make it a priority to disciple students by building relationships with them and guiding them as they transition from child to young adult.

It is a privilege to serve alongside your family and challenge your middle school student to do all for the glory of the Lord. Thank you for trusting us to partner with you during this phase of your child's development.

In Christ,
